An Evening with the BLACK CROWES

The Crowes absolutely blew me away.  This would be their last time through town, as they recently announced that the band will be breaking up at the end of their '10 tour.  This was a must see show for me, as the Crowes were the first band to really show me how great a live performance could be.

Susan's sister Cathy was in town for the weekend and she accompanied me for the night.

The crowd was totally into the show and it really felt like the Crowes elevated the nights performance to give the audience their finest farewell.  It was a three and a half hour, two set show that spanned 20 years of great music.  The second set included some serious solos by each of the band members.  Easily the best show I've seen the band put on.  They are just such a great live show, known as one of the best in all of Rock and Roll, and I couldn't agree more.

The band came out for one encore song.  I had huge hopes for what they would lay down, but unfortunately, they played 'I Ain't Hiding' a Discoey little number, very divergent from their musical roots, off their latest album.  Thier encore song choice was a huge disappointment to me, as well as the crowd, as you could just feel the energy on the floor go flat.  You could even hear people grumbling about it as they were finishing the song, and as we all streamed out of the show.

Despite the disappointing encore, this show was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen.  The music was just so great, and the fact that it would be the last time I would be seeing this band perform made this a very special night of music.  I really did not want the nights performance to end, the Crowes will leave a musical legacy that will not easily filled.
