blokart worlds

In early April I traveled to Ivanpah dry lake bed in Nevada for the 2012 blokart worlds.  Having little experience in the blokart prior to the event, my performance expectations were low.  My primary objectives were to learn as much as I could, stay safe and of course to have big fun.  I would say that I satisfactorily met all of my objectives, but I was still a little disappointed with my race performance.

I've been so distracted preparing shellshock for the season, that I really did not devote enough time learning to effectively sail the blokart.  I discovered there were alot of kart performance modifications I could have made, and I really did not power the sails effectively with trim, course and inertia management.  I feel like I could have performed better if I would have applied more attention to my preparation for the event.  Well, that leaves plenty of space for hope in the future I guess.

Overall, it was a great experience.  Big, big speeds in the desert competing with the best from all over the world.  Some new lasting friendships were made, which is the best possible outcome I could ask for out of an event like this, and I look forward to competing at this level again and reuniting with distant friends.

Had an outstanding dinner excursion to Lawry's The Prime Rib - Las Vegas with my great new friend Bill.  Was so great to make new connections and to share the passion for sailing and living with others.

The blokart will be mothballed for a few months while I direct my full attention to preparing a race boat and crew for the upcoming racing season.  That said, I have high hopes to pull a friend or two into the sport during the summer for some exciting fall racing once the sailing season dies down.

Outstanding trip all the way around, the stuff you couldn't make up if you tried, seeking new experience and living life to the fullest, finding meaningful connections with those around us.
