Crowes are back! At least in my mind they are. There has been a lot of talk the past few years that the Crowes are finished. Wow, what an awesome concert Saturday night at the Fillmore Detroit.
The Crowes were one of the first bands to show me how great live music can be, and they did not disappoint Saturday night. Chris seemed totally into the music, and they pulled out a solid two hours of their best stuff. What an inspiration to see such a great band close up playing a rock solid set list non stop. Rich sounded terrific on the lead guitar, there's been talk of his weight, but he looked great to me.
It's been seven years since their last album. There has even been chatter that attendance is down on this tour, but you would have never known in Detroit. Main floor was packed and the crowd was totally into the music, I managed to negotiate my standard second row back, stage left spot in a very heavy crowd. I spoke with a couple super fans near the front, wow truly humbling.
Chris and I stayed downtown for the night, and he seemed to enjoy the concert as much as I did. I was disappointed for not insisting that Susan come down for the show. I even had aspirations to follow them to Toledo or Grand Rapids Sunday night to share the experience with her, but they were in Chi town, so I'll have to wait another year to share with her truly one of my favorite bands. They have a really cool vibe, with Chris at the helm, that emanates in their music, I wouldn't even try to describe. They played a couple of songs off Warpaint that sounded pretty good live, but it was Soul Singing that really stood out for me on the night, it's been stuck in my head for the last two days.
The Crowes are one of those bands I'll see every time they make it to Detroit, and I really hope they're not anywhere near finished, they've got just so much to offer, with outstanding material and an enduring style all their own.

Sounds like I missed another good one, eh? *sigh*
Bri.
hey man, thanks for the comment on the auto industry, and nice blog on the black crowes!!
it's funny, you live in detroit... motor city, usa... and possibly work for the big 3 and know more about cars than i ever will.... and i live in boulder, co, a town filled with green entrepreneurship, a neighbor with a hydrogen car, and everything eco-friendly....
yet, we both love things like great music and such. it's great.
anyway, i agree with the article. it's politics, and frankly, i think something needs to happen to get things back on the right track!
